JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
Needs a minimum of 3 years' experience in fiber optic construction and equipment operation.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Must be able to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions. Must be familiar with the considerable hazards that exist in falls, automobile traffic and falling objects and with the proper use of protective and safety equipment. Must be able to perform first aid and CPR.
MAJOR JOB TASKS:
- Operate horizontal directional drill for installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable.
- Operate vibrating plow
- Ability to use mini-excavator and other plant equipment to place underground facilities.
- Ability to use trencher
- Ensure the safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities
- Ability to read and comprehend locates
- Understand the setup of equipment including the drill, water tank and grounding the machine.
- Understand how to effectively set up a job site. (Equipment placement, reel trailer placement)
- Ability to formulate and mix drilling mud for the site conditions
- Ability to perform proper reaming and pullback methods for existing conditions
- Oversee see labors and/or crew members work and monitor time usage
- Ability to properly clean and maintain the equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required reports, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
- Communicates with supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e. bore log, vehicle maintenance report, crew time logs, etc.)
- Follows specifications for the job and company policies
- Complies with safety procedures on and off the project site
- Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work
- Ensures work site is in same condition before work has begun when finished.
- Understand how to expose (pothole) other utilities
- Understand clearances from the other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk, and non- pedestrian areas
- Knowledge and ability to properly transport, handle, and place conduits (rolled and stick)
- Knowledge and ability to transport fiber reels
- Knowledge and ability to properly install fiber cables in conduits
- Knowledge and ability to properly set and secure pedestal and vaults
- Ability to read and interpret network prints
- Understand and follow OSHA safety requirements to complete the job(s) safely and effectively
- Communicate by phone frequently throughout the workday
- Follow direction(s) specifically delivered from supervisor
- Performs other duties as assigned

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Consumer/Members: Courteously answers member inquires, and, if unable to do so, directs them to the appropriate person, making every effort to gain their increased understanding and acceptance of the OzarksGo plans, programs, and policies.
- Other Utilities: Maintains contact with other utilities during construction and maintenance activities.
- Public Officials: Works with and assists Highway Departments, state and local; law enforcement agencies, state, county, and city when necessary. Works with city inspection personnel to enable jobs to be completed.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a current Class A or B CDL. Must be able to operate all assigned equipment including bucket, bulldozer, forklift, backhoe, trencher, directional drill, winches, drills, chainsaws, and high compression tools.
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Required to write simple correspondence. Must be able to apply simple mathematics and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Requires ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to deal with a variety of people in varying situations with tact and diplomacy.
- This position is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to loud. Hours may be irregular and include nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
